Western Acupuncture at the Aran Veterinary Clinic

Western Veterinary Acupuncture is used alongside traditional medicines and treatment. It is most commonly used to treat chronic pain, muscular and skeletal conditions.

At the Aran Vet Clinic, we are aware that the general pet population is living longer and while this is great news for pet owners, old age brings specific challenges. We recognise that acupuncture can be a useful additional treatment for animals who have painful conditions such as arthritis, and can be used alongside traditional anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving medications. Acupuncture can also be extremely useful where animals can't take medicines, for example because of stomach, liver or kidney problems.

In July 2011, Lynn Owens attended a 4-day Western Veterinary Acupuncture course run by vet Samantha Lindley, a recognised pain management expert in the veterinary field.

We now offer acupuncture consultations at the Aran Veterinary Clinic and treatments usually take place in the consult room at a quiet time of day. Animals tolerate the needles very well as they are so fine - many don't even notice that the needles have been placed. One of the first signs that acupuncture is being effective in a patient is the sometimes profound sedative effect it has on them - some dogs have fallen asleep on the table!

Not all conditions are suitable for acupuncture. Call us or make an appointment for more information.
